Columbus landed
Claimed for Spain a brave new world
Others came before

Yet he's remembered
Age of Discovery starts
Race for gold and land

Colonization
Genocide, missionaries
Sacrifice and faith

Columbus brought all
No plaster saint, nor villain
Just a man of faults

Let us remember
The man himself, not the deeds
That came later on
